Excerpt and Anthology Permissions

How do I request permission to use Heart.Ink Press, LLC, material in my work? First, determine if your use constitutes fair use (above). If in doubt, ask permission. If your use requires permission, submit your request by email chakita@heartinkpress.com . You are required to include the following information:

•  your name
•  organization affiliation (if applicable)
•  email address
•  phone number
•  fax number
•  address
•  title of the Heart.Ink Press, LLC, publication
•  author or editor of the Heart.Ink Press, LLC, publication
•  ISBN
•  publication or copyright date
•  your publisher
•  quantity to be printed
•  page count of your work
•  expected retail price of your work
•  expected publication date
•  countries of distribution
•  page numbers you wish to use
•  exact page/word count
•  book type (check all that apply): _hardcover _softcover _textbook _curriculum _gift book _periodical
•  brief explanation of text use

NOTE: Information listed in red MUST be included in order for your request to be processed.

May I request permission if I don't have a publisher? No. It is Heart.Ink Press, LLC, policy not to grant permission until you have contracted with a publisher. Once your work is accepted for publication then you may ask permission to use our material.

How long will I wait for a response? This all depends on the number of permissions requests we receive, we sometimes need up to four weeks to respond to an inquiry, though some simple requests may be answered the week they are submitted. Additionally, a few requests are difficult to respond to because they require that we check with a third party.

I can't wait for a response. I need an answer now. In some situations, we are able, for a $50.00 fee, to rush permissions requests. This fee is in addition to whatever permissions fee is required. Rushed permissions requests will be answered within one or two business days. Requests submitted on Friday will be answered on Monday or Tuesday. If, for some reason, we are unable to answer the request in this time, the rush fee will be waived. If you wish your request to be rushed, please note it in writing.
